Explore the Remote West Coast

Pacific Mountain Lodge offers a base from which to explore the waters, mountains and more of Desolation Sound and Toba Inlet.

Kayaking/Boating

Pacific Mountain Lodge intends to offer kayak tours in conjunction with local experts. Accompany seasoned guides through matchless scenery and calm, protected waters of the sound while taking advantage of the guide's knowledge of the area and wildlife. If you would rather have the solitude of being on your own we can provide you with a kayak, as well as training.

Coastal BC is world renowned for biological diversity; the intertidal zone is rich with marine life such as Sun Stars, Star Fish, Crabs, kelp, anemones and much more. The peaceful quiet of paddling makes a kayak expedition the ideal way to commune with nature, up close.

Feel the need to get farther faster? We will also have available custom Bridgeview 20' aluminum double hulled boats with 115 hp Mercury engines. This option gives you the ability to see more of the surrounding area.

Salmon Fishing in Desolation Sound

Local Wildlife/Photo Opportunities

Pacific Mountain Lodge's idyllic wilderness location places our guests in close proximity to thriving populations of BC's best-known native species. One of our favourites, the grizzly bear, can be seen in estuaries or along the shorelines. During your visit you will have the opportunity to watch a multitude of wildlife and marine life. It is common to watch seals, otters, sea lions and other marine wildlife in the waters in front of the lodge.

Heli Tours/Alpine & Glacier Hiking

Pacific Mountain Lodge can arrange for helicopter tours in conjunction with an experienced tour operator. Take this unique opportunity to survey the lush beauty of Deolation Sound from an eagle's perspective as the helicopter hovers over stunning glaciers, mountains and waterfalls.

Take a short helicopter flight to a mountain vantage point no hiker could hope to reach. Guests can enjoy a delicious picnic specially prepared while hiking the glaciers or alpines of these spectacular mountains.

Fishing

Salt Water Fishing

At Pacific Mountain Lodge, guests can experience some great salmon fishing on the West Coast. There are an abundance of other salt-water fish such as Rock Fish and Ling Cod or try your hand at crabbing.

We intend to be flexible in our approach, guests can decide when and if they want to fish and for how long. Box lunches will be available for guests who want to stay on the water. The waters of Desolation Sound are renowned as calm and sheltered, but should the unthinkable happen you can rest assured that we provide the latest and best in floatation suits and that our guides are fully trained in marine first aid.

Fly Fishing

Pacific Mountain Lodge will offer unparalleled opportunities for catch and release fishing, whether guests are a curious amateur or a polished professional. The surrounding lakes and rivers teem with trout. We pride ourselves on our conservation practices.

In March, April or May, guests can land impressive Dolly Varden, Cutthroat or Rainbow Trout. During the fall, salmon varieties such as Chinook, Coho, and Chum offer non-stop action, as do Cutthroat and Rainbow Trout. Guests will have opportunity to use different methods for fly-casting, such as dry flies and wet flies, to catch their fish.
